WORK
Since my last newsletter, I've had the pleasure of onboarding a new advisory client in the Distribution space, and meeting for a full-day strategic planning session, in person for the first time, with another Distribution client.
I led HR teams for 25 years (after starting out my career working about five years for UPS as part of a large team), the last nine years as Chief People Officer for The Granite Group.
When I started out on my own, I figured that I would keep doing what I was doing, but for different companies, on my own terms, and for myself. And I did start that way.
But what I found was that my joy wasn't found in doing the day to day work as a CPO anymore. I got to experience decades of leading HR. My joy was found in coaching, consulting and guiding my HR leaders and executive leader client. Watching them grow, helping them build people strategy or find their next team member. And bringing my decades of experience to these clients - and more - to have a real impact.
Over these past sixteen months since I launched my business I've really come to embrace the fact that what we think we want isn't always what we do want.
Finding the ikagi - the intersection of what I love, what the world needs, what you can be paid for, and what you are good at - was something I didn't think a ton about until a video a few months ago from my friend Ashley Herd. Now, I think about it a lot.
And for me, it's Chief People Officer Advising. I love it. I'm good at it. I can be paid for it. And the world needs it.
There are other things too. But my true work love is advisory.
What's your ikagi? Reach out and let me know!
And if you want to know more about my advisory services, check out the link below. I actually only work on referral so I didn't have this together until recently when someone asked me!
And I thought today's newsletter was a perfect time to share it with you!
COMMUNITY
I first heard about Select Software Reviews in 2018, maybe early 2019 when I was doing research for an HR tech presentation at SHRM national. It turns out, I knew the founder Phil Strazzulla!
He was and is deeply committed to providing incredible resources to the HR community, and SSR has changed a ton since then!
(Full disclosure, I'm partnering with them for a number of things, though not for this newsletter - this is just because I'm a fan!)
They have a slack community of 1500+ people ops leaders, and a terrific peopleops job board! And the newsletter is amazing!
It's one of my most recommended communities.
And on top of all that, they offer free software advice. Seriously. I went through the process again recently, and it's quick and easy - find out more below!
COFFEE
Earlier this month I spent almost a week in Cape Coral Florida, near my dad's house. I got to spend half the time alone (with one day meeting with a client and one day with my good friend Barbie Winterbottom), then Dave joined me for the rest of the time.
We (of course) went to one of our favorite places - Pine Island Getaway Cafe - on Pine Island, about 25 minutes from where we were staying. Cute place, great iced cuban coffee, delicious french pastries.
This newsletter exclusive pic was taken on the only cloudy day we had! Though it was still beautiful!
Have a great rest of your week!
Oh - one last thing!
If you have an interest in AI for HR, I've got a couple of things going on. I'll be teaching a workshop in conjunction with the University of New Hampshire this summer. And, this Thursday, I'll be joining my friends at Harriet for this webinar.
My Partner Spotlight
I am absolutely thrilled to be partnering with GoCo, one of my favorite HR Tech products! GoCo is the #1 HRIS for small business, and provides a beautiful and easy to use experience. Stay tuned for more about them in the next issue!
