Vol 2, Number 3

www.traciesponenberg.com

Welcome!

New year, same look. I'll get around to changing it soon.

And did you notice I skipped a week? Life happens. Last Monday night I got home from a wonderful Disney Cruise with Dave, and felt pretty good the next day. Wednesday, the day I planned to write this, I felt AWFUL. I moved most of my meetings and rested. Because that's what I needed and I'm trying to listen to myself as much as I listen to others!

Anyway, on with the newsletter.

WORK

I have a love for all (well, most) things HR Tech.

But I didn't start my career that way.

If I have the time and patience, I can figure anything out. Unfortunately, I'm usually short on both of those! But when I have both, I'm the resident electronics and tech person at our house. (Honestly though, it usually defaults to Dave!)

My interest in figure things out and peeking behind the scenes for anything (I LOVE getting a backstage peek anywhere - I love seeing how pieces come together at places like Disney World) runs VERY deep.

So when my love for figuring things out collided with a need to overhaul technology at a company I was working at years ago, it was somewhat of a surprise - but also hugely exciting. So, I did what I always do - I researched. And researched and researched and never stopped.

And for the past several years, I've had opportunities to speak about and write about HR tech. Including for this article on Top Applicant Tracking Systems for my newest Partner, Select Software Reviews.

I plan on making this a series - would would you like to learn about next?

COMMUNITY

It's been awhile since I've been hands on in Talent Acquisition, so I don't always feel like part of the TA community.

But it's how I started my career, and it's so integral to the work that I've done throughout my career, I still consider myself an honorary member of the TA community!

There's a great event coming up in Atlanta (I'll miss it by a week, unfortunately!) Anyway, I adore Anna Morgan and she's created and is hosting EVOLVE: TA and HR Experience! It’s interactive, affordable, intimate, and one-of-a-kind.

πŸ“… When: Thursday, January 30, 2025 πŸ“ Where: InfoMart, Marietta, GA βœ… Earn 6 SHRM or HRCI credits!

This in person only, day-long experience features inspiring speakers, actionable strategies, and meaningful connections. Use code INFOMART for 30% off the regular ticket price!

Register below - and say hi to Anna and all my TA friends for me!

COFFEE

Ok I'm cheating a bit here.

This isn't a coffee pic, at all. But it is a beautiful pic from Cantacuzino Castle in BuΘ™teni, Romania (otherwise known as Nevermore Academy from "Wednesday.")

You can't see the castle because it's in front of me, but behind me were some of the most - and I don't use this word lightly - majestic views I've ever seen.

Why is this under coffee?

I was talking with my family the other day about the best coffee I've ever had.

Hands down, it was Romania, where I had the pleasure of spending a week last year for the Everything HR conference.

I did not have one bad espresso in Romania. Quite the contrary.

Beautiful country, amazing espresso. I can't wait to return.

What's the best coffee you've ever had? Reach out and let me know - I'd love to try it on my travels!

Non-Coffee Recommendation!

I shared this a couple of weeks ago, but I wanted to share again! My friend Josh Drean and his co-Author Deborah Perry Piscione have a brand new book coming out from Harvard Business Publishing on January 28 - and it's a must read!

"Employment is Dead: How Disruptive Technologies are Revolutionizing the Way We Work" isn't even out yet, and it's already a #1 Amazon bestseller! Preorder (link below) and you'll not only get a great book, but you might get to read a little more about someone you know (who loves coffee!)

WHERE YOU CAN FIND ME!

Welcome to this brand new section! Like the rest of the newsletter, this will grow and change. But for now, I wanted to include a list of the places and spaces I'll be in this winter. I hope to see you at some!

  • January 21: TEXTIO Webinar (with Rocki Howard and Anessa Fike) - Implementing a People-First Culture
  • January 28: LinkedIn Live (with Alex Seiler) - Ask Us Anything!
  • February 5: Atlanta - 2025 HR Trends dinner - I'll be cohosting with Alex Seiler, and this will be co-sponsored by our friends at CandorIQ and Littler!
  • February 19-21: Palm Springs, CA - Keynote at IDCO Principal's Conference
  • March 6: Boston, MA - Modern People Leader Live! (attending)
  • March 10-12: Indianapolis, IN - Faculty, University of Innovative Distribution at Purdue University
  • March 17-19: Las Vegas - TRANSFORM (panel with Alex Seiler)

And some more to be added soon!

Until next week!

Tracie
